This was the scene of intense fighting west of Fredericksburg in early May 1863 as Union commander Gen. Joseph Hooker tried to move around Lee's army at Fredericksburg. Stonewall Jackson was severely wounded May 2 at a spot marked near the visitor center. The famous general died about a week later. This battle is regarded by many as Robert E. Lee's greatest victory. A driving tour highlights significant areas. The site is part of the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania NMP.

Visitor center open 9 am–5 pm daily. Free.
