Tredegar Iron Works in 1865

500 Tredegar St, Richmond VA 23219

The Historic Tredegar Ironworks, located on the James Riverfront in downtown Richmond, is now the location of two Civil War museums.

  • The American Civil War Museum, located in the iconic gun foundry building, covers the entire Civil War from a variety of perspectives and requires a fee.
  • The other museum, focusing on the local Civil War experience, is operated by the Richmond National Battlefield Park and is the park's main visitor center. It's free.

The site preserves the remains of the ironworks that was critical to the Confederate arms manufacturing capability.
