Red River Campaign state parks

Please consult park websites for locations

Three state parks, Marks’ Mill, Jenkins’ Ferry and Poison Springs preserve sites and explore the history of the 1864 Red River Campaign. A Union column under Gen. Frederick Steele marched south from Little Rock intending to cooperate with Gen. Nathaniel Banks marching from Baton Rouge (LA) in a campaign toward Shreveport. Neither column made it. Steele, harassed by Confederate raids on his supplies, never left Arkansas.
