A visitor center (open seasonally) and a 32-mile, 25-stop driving tour guides visitors through this Oct 21–23, 1864, battlefield. The Union victory here proved to be the decisive moment in Confederate Gen. Sterling Price’s 1864 raid into Missouri.
The Battle of Westport was the largest fought west of the Mississippi with nearly 12,000 Confederates and a total of about 25,000 Federals involved.
Highlights of the driving tour include the Big Blue battlefield, the Wornall House and sites in Kansas City’s Loose Park. Download tour maps from battleofwestport.org or pick one up at the visitor center.
