Reenactor at an event on the Honey Springs battlefield

1863 Honey Springs Battlefield Road, Checotah OK 74426-6301

Union soldiers attacked Confederates who had gathered at Honey Springs for a possible assault against Fort Gibson. This battle, a Union victory, has been called the “Rainbow Battle” due to the participation of black troops on the Union side and American Indian soldiers fighting on both sides. The battle effectively ended major Confederate action in Indian Territory.
The state park offers a part-time visitor center and six interpreted walking trails.

Battlefield walking trails open Tuesday–Saturday 9 am–5 pm. Call for visitor center hours.
