The tiny Tupelo National Battlefield commemorates this July 14, 1864, battle. Confederates under Gen. N.B. Forrest unsuccessfully attacked a much larger Federal force. The Confederates tried again the next day north of Tupelo at Old Town Creek, where a critical piece of that battlefield is preserved.

Grounds of Tupelo National Battlefield are open during daylight hours every day of the year.
