This Nov 30, 1864, battle resulted in costly losses for Confederate Gen. John Bell Hood who had embarked on an offensive into Tennessee after the fall of Atlanta. Well-placed Federals managed to hold off waves of Confederates during dramatic late afternoon attacks. The Union defenders withdrew to Nashville after the battle, followed by seriously wounded Confederate army
The Carter House was at the epicenter of the fighting and still bears the battle scars. A few key acres near the house have been saved and interpreted.

Open Monday-Saturday 9 am-5 pm and Sunday 11 am-5 pm. $15/adult.
