Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park, Point Lookout Visitor Center
110 Point Park Road, Lookout Mountain TN 37350
Sometimes known as the "Battle Above the Clouds," the successful Union attack at Lookout Mountain Nov 25, 1863, was a part of U.S. Grant's effort to oust Confederates from the high ground around Chattanooga. The attack the next day at Missionary Ridge completed the mission. Visitors to the battlefield are treated to some of the most dramatic landscapes in Civil War history.
Two related sites are preserved in the National Park in Chattanooga. A driving tour connects significant areas of the battle on Missionary Ridge; and a cluster of interpretive signs and monuments at Orchard Knob describes the fighting in November 1863. Grant watched the attacks from here. See NPS website for details.
Open 9 am-5 pm daily. NPS visitor center free. Point Park $5/adult.
